Review: Manohra Cozy Resort (Karon, TH)

Monday, September 1, 2014

The location was a little bit off the map but the prices were super cheap though. What got us hooked was the fact that everyone seemed to have so many good things to say about this place. We were pretty impressed by the reviews posted by other travelers on Trip Advisor for this one, so we tried staying for two nights.

Manohra Cozy ResortPatak Soi 16, Karon, Phuket 83100, Thailand
Period of stay: 29 - 31 August 2014
Room booked: Standard Double Room (Room 103)
Spent: S$20/night including tax

View From/Of Room

There isn't much of a view actually, haha! It's basically a terrace concept.

Location & Amenities
You'll definitely need a bike/car to travel around Soi Patak and Karon. Everything is quite far if you're planning to walk and explore. You can request for a town map from the reception counter and if you choose not to drive or ride a bike, the receptionist can also call for a taxi to bring you around.

Staff & Guest Service
Efficient and always available, male staff even came to our room to teach us how to use the safe and helped look for my purse that I dropped somewhere. Italian boss was very easy-going and friendly, even though we only met for a brief conversation. Kudos to staff named Intila for being really genuine and kind when she found out I lost my purse at the airport on the first day, and also for being very informative about Phuket when asked. Kitchen staff had great initative. Taxi service was also fast and efficient.

Room & Facilities

The hotel rooms were really clean with a Thai-ish set up when we first arrived and everything was also cleaned, with the bed made up after we came back from our first day of activities. Seems like they are in the midst of some renovation works but the whole place was still peaceful. Swimming pool looks clean and the view from the pool was quite nice. Wifi was fast, and this was absolutely crucial cos we spent a lot of time in the hotel after the accident.

The motorbikes for rental could use a little bit more maintenance though. Also, we were given a bike that has no gasoline - we had to top-up the petrol ourselves with our own money from the bike shops on the main road. Kinda redundant renting a bike that came with no gas. The staff was very apologetic about it though.

Breakfast & Room Service

The dining area was really decent. Breakfast is served from 7.30am - 11am and we arrived around 10am, but there were barely anything left. If it's til 11am, would appreciate it if the buffet was topped up, at least. The buffet breakfast consists of mainly eggs, pork sausages and pork bacon - plus cornflakes, homemade cookies and fruits. That's about it.

But kudos to the kitchen staff for offering to make us vegan omelette after I told her that we don't eat pork. Great initiative from the staff but the breakfast menu could use some variety daily and possibly vegetarian/no pork options though.

What I Liked:
How cosy the resort is and it's beautiful pool. It's quite a private resort being away from the busy streets.

What I Didn't Like:
The breakfast spread and the motorbikes.

Would I Stay Here Again?
50/50. Pretty worth the price if you know how to drive or ride! :)
